about me:
My name is Molly Zatman. I'm a current journalism major at the Merrill College of Journalism and a Middle Eastern studies minor at the University of Maryland.

I'm in the Public Leadership program in College Park Scholars as well. In this program, my peers and I learn about power structures, the currently socioeconomic dynamics in place, and how we can become leaders.
I was born in an inner-ring St. Louis town called University City and raised by my single mother. When I was six, my mother got remarried and we moved to Potomac, Maryland and eventually relocated to Bethesda, Maryland. The lifestyle in Maryland was vastly different from Missouri in every imaginable aspect: economically, socially, and politically. Having been exposed to this dichotomy, I became fascinated with studying the fundamentals of sociology and lifestyle. As I aged from middle to high school, I realized how much these differences were influenced by systemic structures shaped by our country's leaders. When it came time to choose a Scholars program, Public Leadership was the most natural choice.

I'm still not sure what I want to do with my life yet (though I know it involves a culmination of my studies in journalism and the Middle East), but I know whatever I choose, my friends and lessons from my time in Public Leadership will help me. The tactics I've learned, from persuasion to delegating work, are applicable to all walks of life, and the studies in diversity and demographics have deeply helped me to widen my perspective and awareness.

I'm happy for my time in CPPL! :)
